One of the benefits of the WWC is being a part of some amazing single barrel offerings from some of the finest distilleries and blenders. Our goal is to not just choose barrels for the sake of doing so, we want to pick something special that will captivate your senses.

Elijah Craig Single Barrel
With the help of our fantastic partner A1 Liquors we were able to select our first pick with the help of our friends at the Chicagoland Whiskey Hunters, this single barrel offering far exceeded our expectations. Rickhouse T floor 5 and almost 11 years old, the rich bold flavor was a no doubter for us.

RY3 Blend
You haven’t heard of this new blender from Virginia, but you have now. This pick was a 3 year Rye blend that was absolutely delicious. At 123 proof it is a sipper that is as smooth as it is tasty. It doesn’t have the traditional rye bite to it, no it is more delectable than that.

A triple collaboration with our western neighbors the Fox Valley Whiskey Society and our friends at Malloy’s Finest in Glen Ellyn, Barrell Whiskey has been creating some amazing bottlings. There are a handful that are a part of the core range, but their unique finishes are where this blender has set themselves apart. This collaboration is a blend of Indiana and Kentucky Whiskies. The largest component? A 14 year old Indiana, finished in a Sauternes Barrel. Coming in at 126.3 proof, this is delicious neat, but is amazing with a few drops of water.

A Collaborative pick with our friends at Malloy’s Finest Wine & Spirits this delicious Charleston Distilling Single Barrel offering was limited to only 114 bottles, but it also came in a handful of 375ml bottles. A remarkably approachable bourbon that rivals whiskey from Kentucky. This one came in at 123.8 but sips just right. You may not have heard of this craft distiller, but much like RY3, you have now.

So when we were choosing the Sauternes finished Barrell, the conversation was started about an affordable offering from Barrell Craft Spirits and Stellum came up. A more focused brand from Barrell, Stellum was born out of a desire to provide a more cost savvy blended whiskey. However, they also ended up generating a single barrel program that would take some of the truly unique barrels that would otherwise be used in stellum and offer them to the public. Hence the Vega H7 was unanimously chosen as a truly unique and ever changing whiskey, it was so wonderfully complex.

Being a single malt lover, when I was approached about taking part in a single barrel from Kilchoman, Islay’s rising star distillery, I was all over this one. This single barrel was actually chosen by two prominent whisky advocates in the industry, but didn’t have a need for all the bottles, so we were offered this exclusive pick alongside Malloy’s.

Our upcoming Yellowstone pick is an absolute stunner coming in at 109 it was by far the best of the 3 we had to choose from. This craft distillery is turning heads in the whiskey world and I just new we had to feature a pick from this fantastic place. This delicous bourbon will not last long once word gets out.

Well, when you walk into an exclusive Barrell barrel pick event, you have to try stuff. Little did I know that this one would be the first one of the day and it blew my socks off! Not expecting to get anything this trip, I absolutely had to pick this one with Malloy’s and boy am I happy I did. There is nothing better than 14/18 year old Kentucky whiskies being finished in a rum barrel. So good!

So my friends and I went down to Kentucky last spring and happened upon Peerless. I had never been, nor really tried anything from them. Without reservations they were kind enough to work us into a tasting of their core range and 2 private selections that they were offering there at the distillery. Well, eventually they let us try all 4 of their private selections and I was able to say hello to John Wadell their Single Barrel curator while we walked out with all 4. When I got home I called Steve Malloy and begged him to help get us in there for a barrel pick, and he did just that. During our tasting we were given a choice of 3 barrels, but then we were having so much fun with John, he wanted us to try something they were reserving for themselves. Boy were we glad he did! Coming the end of September this bourbon was so good and at 5 years old, it is one of the older bottles from Peerless I have seen.

So when word got to me about Maker’s Private Select and how fun it was to do, naturally I thought it would be a fun fit for the club. So I sought out a different panel for this one, and had 3 Women whom I knew had a love for whiskey sit on and help us choose. After we all came up with a blend, I was happy to see the men’s choices set aside as it came down to the ladies’ choices. To say the one we ended up choosing was good is an understatement. No matter how we messed with it, it was perfect just the way it was. Coming in time for the holidays, this one will be just right. I am excited for this one.

Closing out 2022 was yet another surprise when we were sipping barrels with Barrell Craft Spirits. This Stellum caught my attention and so I gave it a go. I nearly fell over! Better then our Vega H7, in my humble opinion, I looked at Steve and said “oh my goodness” and he agreed. To finish our picking season with this barrel was an easy choice. Coming around the Christmas holidays, I am also very excited about this one as well.

“When my grandfather came here, this warehouse was full of whiskey. When he left, it was still full of whiskey. When my father came here, this warehouse was full of whiskey. When he left, it was still full of whiskey. When I came here, this warehouse was full of whiskey. And when I leave, this warehouse will still be full of whiskey.”
